Project Sea Of Dunes
The project is situated on the 6th floor of an apartment building on the northern coastline of Tel Aviv, facing southwest towards the sea. The clients, a young married couple who experience significant stress from their jobs, requested a space where they could escape the hustle and bustle of the city and feel as though they were nestled in a sea of dunes by the ocean. They envisioned a flowing space that would captivate the eyes with its textures and evoke a serene coastal atmosphere. The apartment spans 76 sqm and includes two bedrooms, one bathroom, a study, a living room with an open kitchen, and a powder room.
Renovation
Before the renovation, the apartment lacked a private bathroom for the couple, and the shower area had no windows or ventilation. The kitchen was small and enclosed, and the study had diagonal walls that restricted space. To address these issues, we straightened the study walls to create more room and to enhance the TV wall area.
Design Language
The design concept was inspired by the sand dunes near the sea, with the sound of waves setting the tone for the space. We opted for a natural color palette to evoke the feeling of sand being swept by the ocean breeze. In the bathroom, we used textured tiles to mimic a cliffside and opened up the space to include two showers with large windows for light and ventilation. Rose gold faucets were chosen to add a touch of luxury
Floor Plan
In the hallway, we created a dedicated area for service appliances, such as the washing machine and vacuum cleaner, concealed behind harmonica doors to reduce clutter. In the master bedroom, we designed a headboard that mimics the gentle waves of the sea, enhancing the bed’s luxurious feel within the small space.
Kitchen & Living
The kitchen and living room feature a brass shelving unit and wooden boxes to hide electrical sockets. Brass was chosen for its natural patina, which evolves over time, much like the dunes. The house was painted with limewash in shades of sand to reflect the natural dunes near the ocean. The kitchen was finished with stucco to create a textured, relaxed cooking atmosphere
